Buying A New Bike
In my opinion the best way to buy a new bike is to have a bike fit first.
The bike fitting process at Fit My Bike takes place on a bikefitting.com pedal analysing jig using Shimano technology. This means that the cyclist doesn’t already have to have a bike.
Over the years I’ve had a lot of riders turn up on their new wrong sized bike. Just recently I had a cyclist unbox their brand new Canyon Aeroad in the studio only to find that they already had back problems during the intake questionnaire. When we tested different bar heights on the jig it became obvious that they wouldn’t be able to get comfortable with the low racy front end. Fortunately, with distance selling rules they were able to send it back and choose something more appropriate and embark on a stretching regime.
Bike Fitting Process
The bike fitting process enables me to give you advice on crank length, stem length, bar width, saddle and frame stack and reach, to help with choosing an appropriate size. This can be advantageous and save money in the long run if you are buying a bike from a company that enables you to change parts as part of the build process. It can also help set a budget for likely component changes if buying second hand.
As a bike fitter utilising bikefitting.com systems, I have access to their database of bikes (almost 100,000 bikes from 250 brands) and I’m able to provide a report using the details from our bike fit session that can also indicate the size from a manufacturers model that you have in mind. Take a look at these example reports.
