Shimano Crank Recall UK: Check If Your Bike Is Affected – Free Inspections at Fit My Bike
Is that creaking coming from the bottom bracket or is it a crankset affected by the Shimano crank recall UK? Before blaming the press-fit bottom bracket, your crankset could be the real culprit — especially if you’re riding a Shimano 11-speed Hollowtech II. In October 2023, Shimano issued a voluntary recall of certain DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA Hollowtech II cranksets due to potential safety issues. The affected cranks can suffer from bonding separation (delamination), which may lead to cracking or complete failure — posing a serious risk to riders.
🛠️ Free Shimano Crankset Inspections Available
Shimano is offering free inspections for affected cranksets. At Fit My Bike, we’re fully equipped to carry out these inspections, which take about an hour. Shimano also recommends annual inspections for any crankset in the affected range.
Is Your Crankset Affected by the Recall?
Check the model number stamped on the inside of your crank arm near the pedal axle (see yellow square in the image). Affected cranksets include:
- ULTEGRA: FC-6800, FC-R8000
- DURA-ACE: FC-9000, FC-R9100, FC-R9100-P
Does the model number on your crank arm match the model numbers above?
NO: The crankset is not affected, and no further action is needed.
If YES, we need to consider the manufacturing code stamped on the inside of the crank arm near the bottom of the arm (see the blue square in the image).
The affected models are pre-July 2019 production and have the following two-letter production codes: KF, KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK, KL, LA, LB, LC, LD, LE, LF, LG, LH, LI, LJ, LK, LL, MA, MB, MC, MD, ME, MF, MG, MH, MI, MJ, MK, ML, NA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF, NG, NH, NI, NJ, NK, NL, OA, OB, OC, OD, OE, OF, OG, OH, OI, OJ, OK, OL, PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, PG, PH, PI, PJ, PK, PL, QA, QB, QC, QD, QE, QF, QG, QH, QI, QJ, QK, QL, RA, RB, RC, RD, RE, and RF.
If the manufacturing code on your crankset is listed above then you need to get your crank inspected.

🔧 Real-World Crankset Failures We’ve Found
At Fit My Bike, we’ve inspected dozens of cranksets since the recall began — and many of them had visible signs of failure that the owner hadn’t noticed.
💬 A few real-life examples:
- One customer was about to head to the Alps for a cycling holiday. We found a cracked crank just in time — avoiding a serious accident and trip disaster.
- Another customer had just bought new chainrings. But the replacement crankset comes with chainrings included, so they could’ve saved money by having the inspection first.
Some failures are easy to spot, but others are subtle and need a trained eye. Don’t take chances — get yours checked today.
