Bike Workshop Services Offered

Repairs and Servicing

Bike Workshop ServicesThe core of Fit My Bike’s business is bike fitting. In order to work on customers bikes and adjust them following the fit process it is also necessary to be able to dismantle and assemble them. To ensure that this is completed safely and competently I have undertaken both Cycle Systems Academy and Cytech training courses and have achieved Certificates and Diplomas in Bicycle Maintenance.

During the Covid lock down periods whilst I was not able to perform in-person bike fits I took to the road as a mobile bike mechanic and started servicing and repairing bikes of all makes and types. I also attend events as a support mechanic for cyclists riding Sportives.

I have invested significantly in tools and now offer my maintenance skills either in a well equipped workshop or mobile servicing and repairs from a dedicated transit van. More complex work can be collected from the customers location and brought back to the workshop if required.

Service and repair work

Service and repair work is undertaken on an hourly labour rate plus parts. I am able to supply genuine parts from leading brands such as Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo through a selection of trade accounts that I have with UK based distributors.

Bike Workshop ServicesI often get asked how much to service my bike. The answer is well what do you want doing and how much do you want to spend? For example, a full suspension mountain bike having the shocks, forks and dropper post stripped and rebuilt with new seals. As well as, hydraulic brakes bled, new gear cables, new headset bearings, new wheel bearings. Along with new bottom bracket, replacing worn drivetrain components and brake pads could be several hundred £’s and isn’t what most people mean by a service when they hear the cost.

My preference is to take the bike, give it an all over inspection and fix any minor issues such as adjusting the gears or brakes and then come back with any other items I think need undertaking on top and let the customer know the cost to do that work in advance.

In the workshop I am able to fully replace spokes, cables, bleed brakes, replace bearings, change tape, grips, tyres, true wheels and set up tubeless tyre systems with tape and sealant to name but a few common jobs.

Drivetrain Cleaning

A clean bike works better and reduces wear on components. To help clean greasy and oily parts such as drivetrains, I use a Rozone parts washer. The Rozone unit is an environmentally friendly choice for cleaning oil contaminated parts. It utilises a non hazardous water based cleaning fluid. The clever bit is that this fluid is heated to 40° which helps lift the oil and supports micro organisms that eat the oil, rendering it harmless. The residues from the process are carbon dioxide and water which means that the fluid is clean and can be reused, reducing waste.

Di2 Diagnostics

Shimano Di2 equipped bikes are extremely popular for good reason. The lack of cables and the associated upkeep keeps shifting sweeter for longer. Unlike wireless SRAM AXS components, currently some software updates such as shifters must be undertaken using a wired connection. Further, there are hardware tests that can be performed to find faults such as battery drain issues that can only be undertaken with the right bit of hardware. I have in the workshop the latest Shimano Di2 Diagnostics tool that enables me to test Di2 setups for faults and apply firmware updates across the whole range of components.
