Indoor Cyclist
Growing popularity of indoor cycling.
There has been a growing popularity of indoor cycling, training and racing. The number of cyclists with dedicated indoor bikes such as Wattbikes, Neo bikes. As well as, Kickr bikes, Zwift frames and Elite squares is increasing.
For some riders this might be their only bike, for others this might be the bike they ride throughout the winter or indeed all year.
At Fit My Bike we can accommodate indoor cyclists who aren’t able to transport a 50Kg+ bike to the studio to get a fitting.
The fitting takes place on the bikefitting.com pedal analyser jig. This means that we can get the final position output that can be applied directly to the indoor bike.
Bike Fit For Indoor Bikes – Indoor Cyclist
It’s also possible for cyclists that have had a fit on their outdoor bike to have this position replicated on their indoor bike too, providing equipment such as pedals, crank length, saddle and bar width are similar.
The reports that are generated after the bike fit in the studio come with a detailed technical drawing that shows key measurements that can be replicated onto the indoor bike.
With a little bit of work involving a tape measure, plumb line and spirit level this is fairly straightforward.
However, for riders wanting a bit more help, I have some bikefitting tools for loan that can aid the process and improve accuracy and repeatability.
Differences Between Indoor And Outdoor Position
Typically, there might be a little difference between the indoor and outdoor position. Outdoors we experience air resistance pushing us back into the saddle and helping stabilise us. Indoors this resistance isn’t there and can be compensated for by raising the front wheel of a bike on the turbo a little, for example by using a magazine under the wheel block. In some instances though, if the indoor ride is shorter and more intense than an outdoor ride for example during high resistance interval training, the loss of air resistance may not be felt and therefore no compensation is required.
