Female Cyclist

I regularly see more and more female cyclists out riding than I have ever before, both in riding in groups and solo. Which is great for the cycling industry to grow its customer base.

Female CyclistTypically, in terms of a bike fit there are two areas that require a bit more thought when fitting. But are not exclusive to female cyclist.

Saddle comfort can make all the difference between enjoying a long day in the saddle or wishing it was over. Whether a saddle is marketed as being female specific is less important than finding a saddle that works for the individual.

To aid finding the right saddle and helping avoid delicate conversations of whereabouts is the discomfort being experienced, the Velometrik saddle pressure mapping sensor is a great tool.

It allows us to alter the bike fit position. To see the impact on saddle pressure and trial different saddles to see the impact they make on comfort. The studio holds a wide selection of saddles that can tried during the bike fit. Saddles can be borrowed afterwards to make sure they make the difference expected before committing to purchasing one.

Proportional Sizing

Female CyclistAnother factor for smaller riders can be the proportional sizing and set up of parts such as handlebars, chainsets and brake levers.

Narrower width bars, shorter crank lengths and brake levers that can be adjusted closer to the bar can all have a positive impact on the riding experience.

The bikefitting.com fitting jig used in the studio has adjustable crank lengths and handlebar widths so the cyclist can feel the difference these areas make to their comfort.

As a qualified mechanic if any component swaps are advised they can be sourced and fitted in shop keeping fuss to a minimum.

Bring A Companion

Over the years that I’ve performed bike fits for female cyclists, I’ve had lots of Daughter and Dad, Wife and Husband come in together supporting the process. I’m more than happy for a cyclist to bring a companion for moral support, the sessions may last a little longer as the chatting tends to increase but it’s always a fun morning or afternoon.
